Sweet Home WWTP Experiences Upset

Public Works Press Release Header

SWEET HOME, Ore. July 17, 2021 — On Saturday, July 17, 2021, at approximately 4:00 pm, the Sweet Home Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) experienced an upset, which caused the discharge of treated solids into the South Santiam River. We want to reassure the public the discharged water underwent complete chlorination and dechlorination treatment before release. The debris caused a visual and odor issue, not a health concern. Our WWTP team is onsite addressing the cause. They are working with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and our local partners.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact our Utilities Manager, Steven L. Haney, at 541-367-6359 or shaney@sweethomeor.gov
